1910 Wright B (reproduction)

The Wright Model B was the Wright's most successful aircraft, and was one of the first planes purchased by the U.S. government for the country's first military aviation school.

1911 Curtiss Model D "Pusher" (reproduction)

Like the Wrights, early airplane inventor and manufacturer Glenn Curtiss turned his focus to the U.S. military as customers. The Curtiss Model D was the second type of aircraft used by the U.S. Army Signal Corp for their Aviation School.

1912 Bleriot XI (reproduction)

Louis Blèriot designed and built the original Blèriot Type XI, which was the first heavier-than-air craft to be flown across the English Channel. The monoplane was tested for the U.S. Army at College Park in 1912 by Bernetta Miller.

1916 Curtiss JN-4D "Jenny"

Pioneer airplane inventor and manufacturer Glenn Curtiss had years of experience developing bicycles, engines, and aircraft. The JN series, developed as World War I training planes, would become one of the most important planes in early aviation.

1924 Berliner Model C

Early helicopter prototype the Berliner was designed and built by father-and-son duo Emile and Henry Berliner at College Park and around D.C. from 1920-1925.

American Sportcopter Ultrasport 496

The Ultrasport 496 was designed and built by American Sportscopter as a kit helicopter—one you can buy a “kit” of and build at home. It is named for its weight (in pounds) when empty.

1932 Monocoupe 110

The Monocoupe was the brainchild of pilot Donald Luscombe, who set out to design an airplane with an enclosed cabin. By the 1930s, Monocoupes became popular for both their comfort and their speed and efficiency, and were a popular sight at airshows and air races at College Park Airport.

1936 Taylor J-2 “Piper” Cub

The Taylor J-2 Cub, or Piper Cub, was a common sight at general aviation airports like College Park throughout the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s. Designed to be a stable and easy-to-fly plane, more pilots learned to fly in the tandem two-seater Cub than any other airplane at the time.

1939 Taylorcraft BL-65

1941 Boeing PT-17 Stearman “Kaydet”

The PT-17 “Kaydet” was the most common variant of the Boeing Stearman series, the primary flight trainer for the military during World War II and one of the most recognizable training aircraft.

1946 ERCO Ercoupe 415D

The Ercoupe was manufactured by the Engineering and Research Corporation (ERCO) in nearby Riverdale, MD, to be a spin-proof, stall-proof, and slip-proof airplane.

Singer-Link Trainer GAT-1 Flight Simulator, c. 1971

The Singer-Link General Aviation (GAT-1) Flight Simulator is the first in a series of flight trainers for general aviation pilots, designed to teach students the basics of instrument flying before actual instructor accompanied flight.
